MLA Dhamnagar

Suryabanshi Suraj

Born on May 18, 1995, in a family dedicated to nationalistic politics and social service, Suryabanshi Suraj never neglected academics. He excelled in education and earned a BTech degree in Electrical Engineering. He always took an active interest in the political and social activities of his father. Intending to provide justice to the downtrodden of his region, he also got an LLB degree from the FM University, Balasore. Suryabanshi Suraj, the son of late Bishnu Charan Sethi is carrying on the legacy of social service and truthful politics of his father.
He tested his professional skills by working as a software developer at TCS and a system engineer at Adani DPCL, Dhamra. From his student days, he was attracted to the nationalist ideology of the BJP. He built up his organizational skills by actively participating in the students’ politics and leading the students’ wing of the BJP. During his college days, he managed campus elections. He was the chief coordinator at the Campus Ambassador Program during Narendra Modi's first visit to Odisha as the PM Candidate ahead of the 2014 general election. Later on, he was also entrusted with the post of State Coordinator of the Youth wing of the BJP.
The sudden demise of his legislator father dragged him to active electoral politics in November 2022. He was chosen as the BJP’s candidate for Dhamnagar by-election. He took up the mantle to win the by-election to fulfill the dreams of his father for the Dhamnagar assembly constituency.
After getting elected as Dhamnagar MLA with a convincing margin, BJP MLA Suryabanshi Suraj has tried his best to prove that he is a politician of a new breed. He believes in silent work, service, and efforts rather than hollow publicity and public relations drives. According to him, he doesn’t believe in big tents, big meetings, big arrangements, and coming to the meeting spot by helicopter. To prove that he is with the voters of his constituency, after winning the by-election, he visited over 615 villages in the Dhamnagar assembly segment by foot. When there was a major fire mishap at a village under Sahaspur panchayat, he preferred to remain with the affected people. When Dhamnagar experienced a flood, he did not wait for any helicopter to reach out to the affected masses. With his associates, he treaded through the flood water to reach out to the needy with relief materials and active support.
Through his practical experience and collection of public opinion from the grassroots level, he has demanded the Baitarani embankment yojana should be made functional to save Dhamnagar from floods in the future.
He wants equal development of every region in the state.
